Position Description:

This position reports to the Director of Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) and is responsible for the recruitment, training and management of volunteers. Position involves matching volunteers to compatible responsibilities by aligning their preferences and skills to the needs of the department. Responsible for orientation and training of volunteers. Maintains records of volunteer activities, the hours donated by volunteers, and the expenses related to MACC events that make use of volunteer assistance.
Develops and implements strategies to recruit volunteers. Responds to inquiries regarding the volunteer program. Interviews and screens potential volunteers.
Updates training materials and programs as needed and alerts volunteers to relevant educational opportunities.
Surveys staff to assess needs for volunteer assistance and updates job assignments as needed.
Prepares and distributes calendar of volunteer job assignments and monitors performance of volunteers.
Responsible for planning and carrying out all special events, working with a prescribed budget; coordinates with outside vendors for purchase of decorations and event supplies, and generates concluding expense and income reports for each event.
Manages volunteers in performance of duties, providing them continuous feedback, coaching and special guidance when requested or required. Conducts recognition programs to honor volunteers. Assists in resolving disputes and severs the relationship with volunteers when their assistance is no longer needed.
Interacts with community organizations and businesses to promote the organization’s mission and expand the potential volunteer base. Fulfills speaking engagements and prepares media releases when appropriate.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED required. Regular, reliable and predictable attendance for a position with a flexible schedule that can involve evening and weekend events. Hours and days are subject to change based on department demands.

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply, however at the present time MPHD is not sponsoring individuals through any of the US Government’s employment-based immigration programs.

Preferred Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years’ experience organizing, coordinating and executing planned volunteer events.
Approachable and team-oriented individual with experience building strong working relationships and a maintaining a positive work environment.
