Position Description:

Conducts pre-employment and required annual physicals under a joint practice agreement with a licensed physician on employees of the Metropolitan Government; delivers care directed toward health maintenance and the management of acute illness; collaborates with public health nurses on health maintenance problems; consults with physician preceptor on any deviations from protocol; delegates certain patient care procedures to the RN or to the LPN as indicated; provides patient follow-up as needed; refers patients to appropriate resources; maintains complete and accurate patient records; provides in-service training to department personnel and representatives from other agencies; assists with internal medical nursing record audits; assists in the administration and direction of public health nursing services; responds and reports to the directives of the Director of Health in case of emergency or disasters; may be assigned to different clinic/work locations as needed; participates in special projects as may be assigned; and performs related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor degree; Master of Science in Nursing from a program accredited by a nationally recognized nursing accreditation organization.
Current Family Nurse Practitioner Certification through American Nurses Credentialing Center; Certificate of Fitness issued by the State of Tennessee. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification. All public health nurses are required to complete a department approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment.

Licensed or eligible for RN licensure by the State of Tennessee.
Knowledge of childhood immunization schedule is required.
Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Three (3) years of experience as a nurse practitioner.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
